For custom projects, my turnaround is about three months on average; sometimes more, sometimes less.
I work with clients who want a serious gold or silver object and prefer a guided, decisive and tailored process rather than open-ended design. From first sketch or wax model, to casting, engraving or stone selection, working with me means full transparency into my design and fabrication process. You will always know what you are getting.
Step 1 : Initial inquiries
Initial inquiries begin with establishing scope of the project: the type of piece, a budget range, preferred materials, general design inspiration, and timeline. This allows me to confirm fit early and ensure expectations are aligned before moving forward. We can book a call, or exchange messages or emails.
Step 2: Design direction
If we determine working together is a good match, we cn discuss the design more in depth. You can share references or ideas that help me understand you. At this point I ask for a small design deposit, which allows me to deliver at least three (often more) design ideas via watercolor sketch or sometimes a wax model. Once a style has been chosen, I provide you with a formal price estimate, afterwhich we discuss a payment plan that works for us both. Pricing reflects a combination of design labor, production, gold weight, and any additional elements such as stones or engraving.
Step 3: Making your piece
All pieces are made individually by me, with attention to structure and longevity. Sometimes certain projects require various wax models before the final form is determined, its iterations are always documented so that I can show how the project is developing. You always get to confirm before moving forward.
Step 4: Stone and chain sourcing
If your project involves finding that perfect stone or chain, I will present you with various options that fit within your budget during the design and making process. I try to first source at local shops in the city; Florence has reputable stone shops with amazing selections, however I will look to international suppliers if need be. For chains, Italy has remarkable options!
Step 5: Casting, setting & finishing
Most of my projects require lost wax casting, and I work with a local family-run company that casts in most gold alloys. The turnaround at the caster is about a week, afterwhich I file, sand and clean up the piece preparing it for the stone setter. Timing varies here, which will be communicated, and after pickup we discuss finish (matte satin, high polish, or somewhere in between?) Upon final payment the piece then gets photographed and lovingly sent your way.
